Aksil set for NZ Derby campaign in the OTI colours

OTI is delighted to have joined Aksil’s ownership group with the Simon & Katrina Alexander stable. He’s a most exciting new addition to the team who will make his first appearance in our colours this Friday at Tauranga, a race that marks the beginning of an exciting campaign that could include the Listed Karaka Millions 3YO Classic and the G1 New Zealand Derby.

Aksil turned heads early with a series of strong trial performances, and he more than justified that early interest with a debut victory at Taupo in October.

While still learning, Aksil impressed the stable with how professionally he handled the occasion. Katrina Alexander noted that he has grown and strengthened since his two-year-old season and that they have always believed he would thrive once given time to mature and develop.

Aksil – Taupo win

Friday’s run at Tauranga will serve as the first step in an elite summer and autumn program that could include the Listed Karaka Millions 3YO Classic, G2 Waikato Guineas, G2 Avondale Guineas and the G1 New Zealand Derby.

Aksil’s breeding strengthens the case for his Classic hopes. By Ace High, an Australian Derby winner, and out of Savasong, a stakes-performed staying daughter of Savabeel, he profiles like a horse who will excel as the distances increase.

We look forward to seeing Aksil step out in the OTI silks for the first time on Friday as he begins what promises to be a highly exciting preparation. We are thrilled to have this progressive three-year-old as part of the team.
