An action-packed weekend of racing for OTI will see runners at Caulfield and Doomben on Saturday, and Chantilly, Cranbourne and Le Pin au Haras (France) on Sunday.
Caulfield
Stablemates Gailo Chop and Harbour Views will contest the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes over 2000m (Race 6 – 3:10 pm).
Gailo Chop, who won this race in 2017, is in terrific order going into the contest. Matthew Williams commented that the ten-year-old has been working nicely and will be hitting peak fitness in his third-up run. He has drawn well in the small field, and we’re confident that he’ll run a competitive race with Dean Yendall aboard.
Harbour Views also contests the Group 1 Caulfield Stakes with John Allen booked to ride. He’s in great shape and has been racing well this spring. Whilst he has drawn the outside barrier, Matthew Williams remarked that he’s ready to run to his best ability and we expect him to be right in the finish.
Gallic Chieftain contests the Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes over 2400m (Race 10 – 5:45 pm). Archie Alexander is impressed with his work at home and believes he is coming into the race in superb order. He will benefit from a bit of give in the ground, and we expect him to be competitive with Damian Lane riding.
Doomben
At Doomben, Grey Lion will compete in the Listed Queensland Cup over 2200m (Race 5 – 3:42 pm) for Matthew Smith. He came through his gallant 3rd in the Group 3 Colin Stephen Quality a fortnight ago in excellent order, and we’re hoping that he will put in another strong effort. Robbie Fradd takes the ride.
Chantilly
On Sunday morning Australian time, Demeter will race in a 3yo Handicap over 1300m at Chantilly (Race 6 – 2:00 am AEST). Edouard Monfort commented that the filly is in good form and the track and distance will suit her. Whilst the race is competitive, we’re expecting a strong showing. Maryline Eon rides.
Cranbourne
Two OTI runners will contest the Listed Cranbourne Cup over 2025m on Sunday afternoon (Race 8 – 4:50 pm).
Future Score will step out in the race for Matt Cumani. He has come through his first-up run in great shape and has been working well at home. Cumani is pleased with the horse, and we’re expecting him to put in a good performance with Fred Kersley riding.
Inverloch contests the Listed race for Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young. Busuttin has deemed his last start a forget run and commented that he is ready to go and will have every chance to run a big race. Michael Dee takes the ride.
Hasstobegood will race in a Fillies and Mares Benchmark 70 over 1400m (Race 9 – 5:25 pm) for the Grahame Begg stable. She has come through her last start well and taken improvement from the run. Jordan Childs rides in what looks to be an ideal race for her and we’re optimistic of her chances.
Le Pin au Haras, France
On Sunday night, undefeated son of Le Harve, Montabot returns to the races after a spell. He will contest a 2350m Class 4 (Race 1 – 11:00 pm AEST) for trainer Pascal Bary. The four-year-old gelding has been working well and with ideal conditions, should have every opportunity in the race.
