High quality, Well Bred, Precocious Rising 2yo Filly

In her short life, the rising 2yo Shalaa filly out of Dealbata has already shown that she is of above-average quality. Bred at Haras des Capucines stud by Terry Henderson and his partners, the filly has been broken in by Philip Baratte, regarded as one of France’s foremost educators. Philip’s assessment of the filly was excellent, justifying the stud’s recommendation that she should be retained to race.

Standing 15.3h, this bay filly possesses a powerfully built body, deep girth, good feet, and an excellent temperament. She moves well, using her body in a co-ordinated manner. She gives every indication that she will run well as a 2yo.

John Hammond, who has known the filly for some time, made the following comments:

“This is an attractive filly, and we are delighted that champion trainer André Fabre has agreed to train her.

She is by Shalaa who, although he had a slightly slow start to the year, has come good with some impressive two-year-old winners at the backend. He was a dual Group one winning two-year-old himself and comes from a good sire line, being a son of Invincible Spirit. Dealbata, her dam, was a stakes winner here in France (with a rating of 47.5, 104 in UK terms) and in America. She is by Dubawi, who looks like he will be an excellent broodmare sire. She is a young mare who has only had two previous offspring, one of which is already a winner.

The filly is athletic and has a great set of quarters on her, with plenty of push coming from behind, which is something one likes to see in a yearling. I would expect her to race as a 2yo”.

André Fabre, regarded a one of the world’s top trainers, will prepare the filly. OTI has worked with him for a decade and enjoyed consistent success with the horses that he has trained. We have full faith that he will give the filly every chance.

André is delighted to be given a filly who should be precocious as a 2yo. Shalaa, whose oldest progeny are now only 2, support his popularity in the sales ring (leading first year sire in 2019) with particularly good results on the track. In his first crop, he has already had 17 winners, including a G3 winner. Dealbata was a stakes winner in both France and the USA.

Notwithstanding trade opportunities, the filly will be entered in the classic 2yo and 3yo features in both France and the UK. We would hope that she could get to one of the 2yo races at Royal Ascot.
