Aloisia is a staying 2YO filly with a lethal turn of foot. OTI purchased this daughter of Azamour after her second race start in New Zealand when catching the eye in running a fast-finishing second.
Aloisia has a lovely, long-striding action and all the attributes of a quality staying filly. Standing at approximately 15.2 ½ hands, she has a great temperament and, while mature for her age, she has plenty of development to come.
In selecting a trainer, Ciaron Maher was an easy choice given his tremendous success with Oaks winners: Set Square and Jameka. Aloisia is due to arrive at Maher’s Caulfield stables in April 6 and the plan is to have her at the races in late-April; with key spring fillies’ features being the longer-term aim.
Aloisia has a strong breeding page and will have considerable value if she can achieve strong racetrack success.
Her sire, Azamour has produced 66% winners to runners including Dolniya, winner of the rich Group 1 Sheema Classic. He has produced 34 individual stakes winners in the Northern Hemisphere with his oldest New Zealand crop being 2YO’s.
Aloisia’s dam, Queen Boudicca, ran third in the Group 2 Matamata Breeders Stakes over 1200M and was a winner as a 2YO. Queen Boudicca’s mother was a half-sister to the outstanding New Zealand 2YO, Canned Heat. He had three NZ starts and was able to win the Champagne Stakes impressively.
In both New Zealand starts over 1200M Aloisia has conceded ground early before reeling off tremendous late sectionals in making considerable ground. On debut she ran the fastest last 600M split on the entire card and that most recent second against the boys in a Premier 2YO race at Trentham was exceptional.
All the signs point to this filly having very bright staying future. Her performances over the hugely unsuitable 1200M journey have been exceptional and once she gets up to a mile and beyond she’s going to transfer that talent into racetrack success.
Aloisia will hit the ground running in early-April and this is a great opportunity to race a potential Oaks filly that should be at the races within weeks.
