Spirit set to rise again at Sandown on Wednesday

After breaking her maiden in her first race start two weeks’ ago (click here to watch), Angelic Spirit is looking to make it back-to-back wins in Race 4 at Sandown tomorrow.  She is set to line up in a Benchmark 64, three-year-old fillies race over 1300m, that will commence at 1:35pm (AEST). While this may only be her second start, she will be stepping up in class to a Metropolitan race, so a second successive win will be by no means easy. In her last start, she jumped well and settled in the one-one position. From there, the race was run at a slow tempo, which didn’t appear to suit her. Around the turn, she edged out into the clear and did look a bit lost once she got to the lead. To her credit, once she did get to the lead, she was able to stay there and fight off the fast finishing horses behind her to win the race.  While still green, she is sure to have benefitted from the experience.

Tomorrow, the extra 100m distance should suit her and the long Sandown straight should also be of benefit. Trainer Trent Busuttin has opted to give experienced jockey Mark Zahra the ride and she has drawn barrier 2. This should allow her to take up a forward position again and every chance in the run as we try to get a gauge of her ability in this stronger company.

With dreams of a VRC Oaks in the future for this filly, tomorrow is sure to be another exciting step in her race career for our co-owners.  We wish them every success.
